I was watching the video of Tim Saughnessy’s speech in Columbia and a couple things he said jumped out at me that I didn’t notice the first time.
-
The opening of this center will allow us to offer high value information technology services to our US based clients serviced here…It will primarily support IBM’s strategic outsourcing clients…
-
Columbia will be part of a global network with sister centers in Boulder, CO; East Fishkill, NY; Dubuque, IA; Brno, Czech Republic; along with a number of other centers throughout India and China.
What this says to me is that Columbia will be part of a group of intermediaries to outsource tech work to India and China.
Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely no problem with that. I have been asked several times what exactly is IBM doing here. After watching the video a few times this is what I was able to deduce.
Do you agree with me? What do you think about this, or do you think they’re doing something else?
